The month of October is Pregnancy and infant Loss awareness month, but October 15 is a day called Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day. On this day we remember all those little angels gone too soon. It is a day of remembrance for pregnancy loss and infant death which includes, but is not limited to, miscarriage, still birth, SIDS or the death of a newborn.
There is still so much stigma when it comes to the death of our babies and too often parents are left to grieve on their own and may not have anyone to help them remember their babies. The goal of remembrance day is to help others learn what to say/do and what not to say/do, help them relate to our losses and help families learn how to live with their loss, not "get over it."
When it comes to the loss of our children there is no getting over it. We will never go back to the way we were before, we have to learn how to live a new normal and we need to help others around us learn how to deal with our new normal as well.
Every year on October 15, at 7PM there is a wave of light to remember these angels. You can join in, light a candle and post to social media everywhere to spread the word and help those remember their angels lost.
You may have seen the pink and blue ribbons used to raise awareness for this cause. 1 in 4 women have suffered a loss. Think about all the women you see in a day. The ones you work with, the ones you pass on the street, the ones you see in the store. Imagine how many you see each day, and then remember 1 in 4 of those women have lost a baby. Help us help them remember.
Today at 7 light a candle, share awareness. If you have suffered a loss share your story. Don't be afraid to tell your story, don't be afraid to share pictures. Today we remember.
Today I remember Oscar William Owens born and died September 30, 2013. Who are you remembering?
