Starting atop a 68-foot tower, riders will be able to grab a raft and take their mark in side-by-side racing lanes at top speeds. Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween everyone. Can't believe it is that time of year again. time to take the kids trick or treating and start rounding out the year. This year the kids get multiple trick or treating experiences and get to dress up as different things. Bella is a fox. Kaya is a snow leopard and Wonder Woman. Louie is Lego Batman and regular Batman. Silas is Tom from Tom and Jerry and Mr. Incredible. My 30th birthday is very quickly approaching and im not sure how to feel about that, but I will leave that for another day. SeaWorld and Cincinnati Zoo Collaborate on Manatee Rehabilitation and Care

Orphaned manatees Miles and Matthew are headed back to SeaWorld Orlando after spending extended time at the Cincinnati Zoo for additional rehabilitation, and a young male manatee rescued by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) in November 2018 is headed to Cincinnati from SeaWorld Orlando. The multi-manatee move is a part of the Manatee Rescue and Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP), a collaborative program designed to rescue and treat sick, injured and orphaned manatees and then release them back into the wild.

“The collaborative work of the MRP allows us all to provide the best possible care for these rescued animals,” explained Jon Peterson, manager of rescue operations for SeaWorld Orlando. “All of the facilities and agencies play a key role in manatee conservation, whether it’s rescuing the animals, providing around the clock care for manatee calves in critical condition or providing a temporary home until they have been deemed returnable. We’re all working together to give this threatened population a chance to survive.”

“We know the Cincinnati Zoo will provide excellent care as these manatees finish their rehabilitation, with a goal of returning them to Florida waters,” added Peterson.

Meet the Manatees:

·        Miles (male) was rescued from the Sykes Creek on Merritt Island, Florida in August 2016 by FWC, weighing only 43 pounds.  After receiving extended critical care at Sea World Orlando, he moved to Cincinnati and has gained enough weight to be eligible for release. 

·       Matthew (male) was rescued from New Smyrna in October 2016 by FWC, just after Hurricane Matthew. He weighed 56 pounds when rescued but has gained more than 700 pounds while at SeaWorld and the Cincinnati Zoo.

·       Truffleshuffle (juvenile male) was rescued by FWC in November 2018 and brought to SeaWorld Orlando suffering from cold stress.   He has gained approximately 230 pounds in the past year and will continue to be cared for and rehabilitated at the Cincinnati Zoo, with a goal of returning him to Florida waters.

“Truffleshuffle will be the 20^th manatee to be rehabbed at the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden since Manatee Springs opened in 1999,” said Curator of Invertebrates & Manatees Winton Ray. “It’s an honor to participate in the MRP and have the opportunity to help these amazing animals get a second chance at life in the wild.  The critical care work being done at SeaWorld, especially when these rescued manatees are first brought in, is vital to their rehabilitation and successful return.”

“SeaWorld is able to offer exceptional care in rescue and rehabilitation because of the experience of their dedicated and skilled team,” Ray continued.

Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership:  Collaborating to Save Species:

As part of the Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership (MRP), SeaWorld Orlando is an acute care rehabilitation facility that provides life-saving medical care to rescued manatees.

The Cincinnati Zoo is only one of two U.S. facilities outside of Florida to participate in the USFWS’ Manatee Rescue & Rehabilitation Partnership, which began in 1973.  They are a second stage rehabilitation facility that provide temporary homes for manatees until they are ready for release back into the wild.

The MRP is a cooperative group of non-profit, private, state, and federal entities who work together to monitor the health and survival of rehabilitated and released manatees. Information about manatees currently being tracked is available at www.manateerescue.org. The Florida manatee was recently reclassified from endangered to threatened but is still at risk from both natural and human causes of injury and mortality. Exposure to red tide, cold stress and disease are all natural problems that can affect manatees. Human-caused threats include boat strikes, crushing by floodgates or locks, and entanglement in or ingestion of fishing gear. 

SeaWorld’s Rescue Efforts

Over the last five decades, SeaWorld has rescued more than 36,000 wild animals in need including those that are ill, injured, orphaned or abandoned. SeaWorld’s goal for every rescued animal is to rehabilitate and return them to their natural environment as soon as possible.

This year alone, SeaWorld Orlando has rescued 18 manatees and returned 12 back to the wild following successful rehabilitation. SeaWorld’s Rescue Team is on call 24/7, 365 days a year, and always ready to help an animal in need.

Guests to SeaWorld Orlando can learn more about the vital rescue work SeaWorld does for wildlife at the park’s behind-the-scenes Rescue Center used for rehabilitating wildlife that has been ill, injured or orphaned – including manatees, sea turtles, birds and other marine animals. 

While a guided tour of the entire facility has been available for years, the park has now opened up one portion of this area for complimentary viewing to all park guests. Visitors are invited to step behind-the-scenes and catch a glimpse of SeaWorld’s working manatee rescue and rehabilitation facility to learn more about the plight of these vulnerable animals in the wild. See firsthand some of the top problems today’s manatee populations are facing and simple actions we can all take to help through digital medical charts, interactive displays, underwater camera viewing and rescue footage straight from the SeaWorld Animal Rescue Team.

Blogtober day 10: 10 facts about me

1) i am a Disney lover, been probably around 20-25 times and will never get tired of it

2) i am a Harry Potter nerd...read all the books and seen all the movies many times...the books are definitely better because the movies leave out so many good parts. I want to go to Harry Potter world at universal.

3) i love dolphins. I got to swim with dolphins down in the Bahamas when i was 16

4) for those who don't know i have 4 kids here on earth and 2 in heaven.

5) i am a scorpio. My birthday is November 2

6) i work in a call center and love it. I never knew how much i would enjoy it but i do. Been there about 2.5 months now.

7) my favorite season is summer. I hate being cold and i hate snow. Only good things about cold weather is fires and cuddling.

8) my favorite holiday is Christmas because i get to spend it with family and i love the excitement my kids get and love the magic.

9) i have my associates degree in medical administrative assisting. I can do scheduling, billing and coding,and more.

10) i have lived in 4 different states: Georgia,Ohio,Kentucky,and Indiana

Monday: wake up at 730, chiropractor at 10, work 11-8 come home eat, shower, clean, bed

Tuesday: wake up at 730, meet with caseworker at 9 work 11-8 come home eat, shower, clean, bed

Wednesday: wake up at 730, chiropractor at 10, work 11-8 come home eat, shower, clean, bed

Thursday: wake up at 730, meet with therapist at 9 work 11-8 come home eat, shower, clean, bed

Friday: wake up at 730, chiropractor at 10, work 11-8 go to gym come home eat shower clean bed

Saturday: wake up at 9, go get my kids are spend time with them from 10-6, then free time until 10 come home  shower clean bed

Sunday: my free day when i usually spend time with family and friends and did whatever until 730 come home  shower clean bed

Blogtober day 3: pregnancy and infant loss awareness month

Most everyone knows that October is breast cancer awareness month. What isn't as well known is that it is also pregnancy and infant loss awareness month.

Just a few short days ago we celebrated my sons 6th birthday in heaven. He was born September 30,2013 at 16 weeks 5 days. He passed at birth. We still don't really know what caused him to come early,but the doctor decided it was incompetent cervix.

Pregnancy and infant loss is still such a taboo subject. 1 in 4 women have experienced pregnancy or infant loss. Why are we still so afraid to talk about it? Yes it is sad,but i love talking about my son to whomever will listen. His name is Oscar William. He did exist and he will forever be my son and guardian angel. This overtim October please help me spread awareness. Let's end the taboo that surrounds it.

Blogtober day 2: my favorite Halloween movies

Halloween and fall is a time lots of people love. It starts to cool down, we get to decorate, and there are lots of movies dedicated to Halloween and fall. Here are my favorites:

1) Hocus Pocus- I'm sure we have all seen this movie about the 3 witches brought back on Halloween and they want to get all the children. Stars Bette Midler. This is one of my favorite movies ever and i love watching it every year.

2) Halloweentown series- this set of Disney movies are like my top favorite movies of all time besides Harry Potter. For those who don't know the serious starts with a girl who ends up discovering she's a witch as is her mom and grandma. The series watches her and her siblings  grow and learn as witches and warlocks and go on different adventures. I look forward to watching these every year and i even sometimes watch them throughout the year.

3) It's the great pumpkin Charlie Brown- i grew up watching this every year and i still look forward to it coming on every year. Watching the holiday themed Charlie Brown shows is a family tradition that i had growing up and continue on with my kids.

4) Casper-centered around ghosts and Halloween time this is a great Halloween movie that also is funny and even makes me tear up a little at times.

That is it for my list. Yes it's short and it doesn't include any scary movies. I am not a huge fan of scary movies although i will watch them from time to time. Tell me in the comments what your favorite Halloween/fall movies are.

Hey everyone. I hope you guys are all doing well. I am excited this year to be participating in Blogtober. I will be doing my best every day to write a blog post. They will usually be centered around fall/Halloween with a little extra tied in. If you have anything in particular you want to see please let me know and i will do my best to write up a post on that topic.

I another note, i can't believe we are already in October. This year has been a hard one for me with lots of ups and downs. I am kind of glad to be coming up on the end of the year and am very excited to see what next year holds. I have a lot to write about in experiences from this year that I'm not quite ready to tell all yet,but soon.
